Youth Days
Kobus was born on the 7th of December 1962. He grew up and was raised in Parow North, Cape Town, South Africa. He went to Parow North Primary School and was 1975 the Head boy of this school.
He is the oldest of three boys of a healthy, caring and stable Christian Family.
He went to Tygerberg High School and matriculated in 1980. During his school days he was very much involved in activities such as rugby, karate, tug of war, acting and singing. He got his SA colours in Tug of War, played for his first rugby team and became a karate instructor.
It was during his last days in this school that he had his first encounter with the living God, when he surrendered his life to Christ and became a follower of God.
He did his National Service between 1981-1983 at Valhalla, Air Force Base, Pretoria, South Africa.
Divine Calling & Training Process
It was during his army days that he sensed a specific and unique calling and purpose of God on His life.
Based on this newly found passion for God and compassion for people he started and managed a spiritual coffee shop and counseling centre on this Air Force Base, while doing His national service.
After his army days, Kobus completed a 3-year Diploma in Theology at the Theological College of SA, while being involved in the ministry at Lighthouse Christian Church.
He was ordained as a minister of God in December 1986.
He served at the Lighthouse Christian Church as a Youth Pastor until October 1988 and led a major youth revival in the northern suburbs of Cape Town during this time.
Marriage & Family Life
He met his wife, Karen Wiese Theron, at a spiritual retreat while being involved in the ministry and the Lighthouse. They married on the 4th of October 1986.
They have two children, Gerrie and Chantelle, now special young adults and God-loving and achievers in their own right.
Kobus is a strong family man who believes in the importance of a healthy, stable and happy marriage and family life, and his family reflect this belief.
Early Ministry Days
He started and led a Youth ‘Outreach’ Ministry Team, called ‘Prepare the Way Ministries’, since January 1989 to December 1992.
He started his first Church, called Prepare the Way Christian Church, in January 1993 and was the senior pastor of this church until July 1996, when he gave the leadership responsibility of the church to one of his assistant pastors.
It was during this time that he realised a great need amongst people in the church and secular market, to be taught and advised how to manage their lives with the help of God and His wise and loving life principles.
It was also during this time that he felt strongly guided to start to serve and help people in the secular market with his leadership, teaching and counseling gifts, based on God’s help and guiding Life Principles.
Life Coaching & Ministry in the Secular Market
In August 1996 he started a Life (management) Coaching organisation, later known as Maxima Training & Consulting.
Maxima served a dual purpose: One arm consisted of a team of Ministers who ministered in various churches, with special courses developed by Kobus. The other arm consisted of a team of Life Coaches, trained by Maxima Academy, serving in the secular market, training and consulting people based on these unique personal development courses.
Since August 1996 until August 2011 he was involved in leading this organisation, developing and training life coaches and ministers, developing more than 30 personal life management courses and training and consulting in the secular and church market.
New season – High Calling
Since January 2011, after running Maxima for 15 years, he again felt strongly guided to disband Maxima and release all the Life Coaches and Ministers of Maxima to establish and run their own independent ministries and coaching services.
He also then felt strongly guided, after 25 years of being involved in team ministry to establish and run, with his wife Karen as his manager, a ‘solo’ career as a traveling minister, executive life coach and motivational speaker.
Passion & Purpose
His heart’s desire and strongest passion and drive is to see every human being living in a genuine, living and flourishing co-operative relationship with the living God and to help people, through this Kingdom Way of Life, to achieve maximum success and happiness in every aspect of life – career, marriage, parental, physical, financial and social.
Secular Market Approach
When he speaks and trains in the secular market he ALWAYS does it in a wise non-condemning and loving manner, focusing on God’s Life Principles as universal success-enhancing life principles and always respecting and keeping in high regard every individual’s personal faith and beliefs.
Major Career Related Achievements
Over a span of 25 years he has helped to raise and mentor many people who are today strong, successful and highly effective ministers and life coaches.
He has also taught hundreds of personal development, spiritual and life enriching courses, to hundreds of organisations, businesses, churches, colleges, sports teams and open groups of people in South Africa, Zambia, and Brisbane, Australia.
He has also helped many executives, business leaders, church and ministry leaders and general career achievers to achieve great and noble successes.
He mentored and coached hundreds of married couples and has helped many troubled marriages to be fully restored, and experience long lasting, stable and happy relationships.
He has also mentored, coached and helped hundreds of parents to parent their children more successfully.
He is currently a mentor and advisor of many prominent executives in our society, and train and minster at various institutions here and abroad — see list of corporate clients.
